ST HELENS WILD FLOWER AREA
Back in 2024, the Parish Council approved a management plan for the Greens, which included provision for a wildflower meadow on the boggy, unused land below the car park.
Work has begun on creating it. It doesn't look much at the moment, but in time it will not only be a very attractive addition to the village, but beneficial to birds, insects, butterflies, and
other fauna.
The Parish Council would like to thank the wonderful band of students and staff from The Isle of Wight College who came and did all the digging - under the guidance of Horticulture Tutor,
Catrina Richardson - plus St Helens resident, Stella Peterson, who played a pivotal role in setting up their visit and planning the meadow. And thanks also to Anton and Abi at the St
Helens Shop & Post Office, who so generously supplied everyone with cans of drink, crisps, and other snacks.
Please be aware that the ground is uneven, and is being deliberately kept uneven in order to create different ecosystems. But this unevenness can also be a positive attribute by being a tad artistic
in the shapes produced.
