COASTGUARD
If you get into difficulties at sea, or see someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. You can find out more about what they do here.
Remember - if you unexpectedly fall in, fight your instincts, not the water, and FLOAT to live. Do not try to swim, as cold water shock will set in very quickly. Float until the effects of cold water shock wear off.

HEALTH
IF YOU COME ACROSS A PERSON COLLAPSED, DIAL 999, ASK FOR THE AMBULANCE SERVICE, DESCRIBE THE SYMPTOMS AND YOUR LOCATION, AND THEY WILL TELL YOU WHERE THE NEAREST DEFIBRILLATOR IS. FETCH THE PACK (OR GET SOMEONE ELSE TO) FROM THE CABINET AND RETURN TO YOUR PATIENT, OPEN THE PACK AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. YOU DO NOT NEED TRAINING - THE DEVICE IS AUTOMATIC AND WILL TALK TO YOU.
IN ST HELENS, THERE IS A DEFIBRILLATOR ON THE OUTSIDE WALL OF THE CRICKET PAVILION ON THE GREEN.
WIDER COMMUNITY PROTECTION
